One of Hungary’s oldest meat processing companies, Pápai Hús was established more than 100 years ago. The company started operations in 1913 when the local slaughterhouse was set up in Pápa, Western Hungary. Today it is a company with more than a century old tradition in meat processing and production. Throughout the decades, the company and its operating structure have been affected by the various social, political and economic changes, however these changes also helped the company develop, improve and grow. In the 1930s, production of bacon was added to the slaughterhouse’s capabilities, then came the production of pressed ham, which was a real novelty at the time. Pressed ham and pork shoulders were the main export items at that time. From the company’s nationalization in 1949, the “Pápai” name (meaning ‘from Pápa’) became the company’s own brand and it stayed with it for the years to come. Major developments were started at the company in the 1950s when export demand grew significantly. The company built a pressed ham production unit. By the end of the decade it was one of the first Hungarian companies to sell its products abroad continuously, and in 1968 it started exporting overseas, too. Pressed ham made the company famous on the U.S. market. To date the Pápai brand name has become a symbol of high quality, both internationally and in Hungary, as well. The high quality of Pápai Hús products stems from an experience of more than a century, the harmony of traditional flavors and modern production techniques.



At the end of 2016, Famous Yield Enterprise, a group owned by Hong-Kong based investors became the owner of the newly formed Pápai Hús Kft. The new owner aims to improve further the Pápai Hús brand by investing into the development of the meat company’s production capabilities. Both the new owner and the Pápai Hús management believe that a strong presence on export markets can ensure the solid future of the company. The primary aim is to expand on the Far-Eastern and U.S. markets. Adapting to consumers’ expectations, new regulations, food safety, hygienic and environmental protection rules are all necessary to maintain effective production at Pápai Hús. Due to the company’s significant export capacities, the production processes of Pápai Hús are under continuous supervision. Regular audits are carried out by local authorities and ministries and by special international (USA, China) authorities, as well.

Food safety and system regulations currently in place at Pápai Hús:

– The HACCP reveals and handles possible physical, chemical biological hazards throughout production processes
– The SSOP system summarizes and determines all the work processes and checkups which are needed to maintain adequate hygienic state.
– By the FSSC22000 regulation production process meets the criteria of world standards, and provides for unified correspondence on multiple continents.
– Quality assurance is based on MSZ EN ISO 9001, which provides precise regulations for ensuring work processes in various fields of production.
